“It doesn’t sound bizarre at all,” he said. “In fact, I saw that show...or at least that counselor...and did the same thing. And you’re right, it did help.”

He reached down and flipped the comforter back then picked me up and placed me down in the middle of the bed just below the pillows. Crawling in next to me, he wrapped his arm around my shoulder and we slowly slid into place under the covers. I rested my head against his chest, wrapping my arm around his waist.

In my thirty-four years, I’ve only been with three men. My high school boyfriend, Joe, Cal, and Stewart. Joe and I had a few fumbling encounters in his old Chevy Blazer and afterward, he’d take me home. When Stewart and I started getting physical, the sex itself was fine but afterward I felt self-conscious. I was never sure what to do or how to act, and while I can’t blame that totally on him, it should have raised a red flag. Especially after what I had experienced with Cal. I always felt comfortable with him and there was never anything awkward about the before, during, or after of our sex life.

I snuggled closer to Cal, resting my cheek between his shoulder and neck. The spot had always felt custom-made for me and still does, even though he’s bigger and more muscular now.

“Do you have any plans for tomorrow?”

“No.” Time for more honesty. “I figured that tonight and meeting your friends Sunday would be enough excitement after being cooped up for weeks.” I both heard and felt the vibration of his chuckle. “Did you have something in mind?”

“I thought maybe we could hang out here, maybe swim, be lazy on the beach.”

“I’d love that.” I tilted my head back to look at him and added, “But I don’t have any clothes or a swimsuit.”

His wicked grin got my heart pounding again.

“Maybe we’ll just stay inside then.”
